Kishoreganj to have new intercity train from Wednesday

Bangladesh Railway is set to introduce a new intercity train on the Dhaka-Kishoreganj-Dhaka route tomorrow.

With this, the long demand of the district’s people came true, as railway officials said “Kishoreganj Express,” having 552 seats, would have stoppages at Manik Khali Rail Station, Sorarchar, Kuliarchar, Bazitpur, Bhairab, Methikandi, Narsingdi and Dhaka Airport Stations.

The people of the district have long been demanding a new train service as “Egaro Sindur Probhati,” the only train on the route, was not enough to meet the pressures of a huge number of passengers.

Besides, other transports are costlier, time consuming and not very comfortable. Joyanta Mazumdar, stationmaster of Kishoreganj rail station said Sobhon ticket’s price of the new train would be Tk120, while Sobhon Chair ticket’s price would be Tk140.

Prof Mazharul Haque Chunnu, a regular passenger of the district, said the people of Kishoreganj had been demanding a new train for quite for a long time, as people prefer a train journey as it is both affordable and comfortable. Other than trains, all kinds of transportation fares had already hiked abnormally, he added.
