New ministers get portfolios today

The Cabinet Division will issue an order on Tuesday distributing portfolios to the new ministers and advisers.

Among the existing ministers, Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Communication Minister Obaidul Quader, Law Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed, Home Minister MK Alamgir, State Minister for Home Shamsul Hoque Tuku, Social Welfare Minister Enamul Haque Mostafa Shahid, Environment Minister Hasan Mahmud, Food Minister Abdur Razzak, Primary and Mass Education Minister Afsarul Ameen, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki attended their offices at the secretariat on Tuesday.

However Meher Afroz Chumki left her office staying there for only a couple of minutes.

A high official of the Cabinet Division told the Dhaka Tribune that the order on new ministers’ portfolios and existing ministers’ resignation would be issued around 7pm to 8pm.

Earlier on Monday, six new ministers and two state ministers took an oath to oversee the next general elections. President Abdul Hamid administered the oath inside the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban.

Of the ministers, two are from Awami League, five from Jatiya and one from Workers Party.

Jatiya Party Presidium Member Ziauddin Bablu was made an adviser with the status of a minister.

The new ministers are – Awami League Advisory Council Members Tofail Ahmed and Amir Hossain Amu, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, Jatiya Party Presidium Members Rawshan Ershad and Anisul Islam Mahmud and Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Hawladar.

Jatiya Party Presidium Members Mojibul Haque Chunnu and Salma Islam were sworn in as state ministers.
