Public prosecutor disappointed over verdict

Public Prosecutor Anisul Haque expressed his disappointment over the verdict of the Special Judge's Court that acquitted BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman in a money laundering case.

“We will make a decision about further steps after reviewing the full copy of the verdict,” said Anisul.

“With all due respect to the court, we are compelled to say that justice has been denied in this case,” he added.

Replying to a question on whether the verdict will cause people to lose faith in the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC), he said: “There is no reason to lose trust in the ACC.”

Meanwhile the pro Awami League lawyers formed a procession on the court premises protesting the verdict.

They also claimed that the ACC lawyer, Mosharraf Hossain Kajol, was corrupt.

Earlier on Sunday, Tarique Rahman was acquitted in a money laundering case.

The court however sentenced his friend Giasuddin Al Mamun to seven years’ imprisonment and fined him Tk400m in the same case.

Judge Md Motahar Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-3 pronounced the verdict.
