Clashes injure 30 in Tangail

Some 30 people, including three police officials, were injured in separate clashes in Tangail district, during the third day of the 84-hour hartal on Tuesday morning.

At least 15 people were injured, including five who were shot, in a clash between the Awami League and BNP in Gopalpur upazila.

Police and witness sources said they clashed at Gopalpur bazar whilst trying to establish supremacy in the areas during the morning.

Meanwhile, some 10 to 12 shops were vandalised and miscreants torched the house of a ruling party activist during the clash.

Those who were shot are: Humayon, Saydhul, Golam Nabi, Mohiuddin and a class four student Sajib.

Gopalpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tanzila Islam and police Officer-in-charge Jasimuddin confirmed the incident.

Additional police were deployed to the area to avoid any further incidents.

Elsewhere some 15 people, including five police officials, were injured in a clash between Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir activists against law enforcers on the eastern side of Bangabandhu Bridge in the morning.

Locals said hartal supporters vandalised and torched some vehicles during a highway blockade in the area. Later they locked into a clashed with police who tried to disperse the crowd. 15 people were injured.

Jamuna East police station Officer-in-charge Hares Ali said: “Injured Sub-Inspector Sarwar Hossen, Assistant Sub-Inspector Tapon Chandra Das and Constable Zihanur Islam, were admitted to Bhuapur Upazila Health Complex.”
