A devastating fire was sparked at the Taj Marriot building in the capital’s Gulshan on Monday night, gutting a large quantity of valuables and electronic equipment.
Police said the fire originated at the computer server room siutuated in the building's fifth floor.
However, Gulshan police station Officer-in-charge Rafiqul Islam said there were no reports of any casualties.
The building that housed the headquarters of Qatar Airways, VFS and Bangkok Airways, caught fire at around 9:45pm. Eight units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD), along with locals and police, put the blaze out by 11:45 pm.
Md Jobon Ali, a duty officer at the FSCD, told the Dhaka Tribune that some of their firefighters had sustained injuries and fell sick in trying to bring the flame under control.
