Bomb hurled at Indian HC Ctg office

A handmade bomb was hurled at the office building of Assistant High Commission of India in Chittagong city, Sunday evening.

The incident occurred at around 7:15pm in the midst of the nationwide 84-hour hartal called in by the BNP-led opposition 18-party alliance.

The bomb hit the outer boundary wall of the building, police said. "No one was inside the office at that time."

Khulshi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mainul Islam Bhuiyan said the matter is being “considered seriously.”

A crude bomb was also hurled targeting the residence of Metropolitan Sessions Judge SM Mojibur Rahman around 7:45pm, Panchlaish Police Station Officer-in-Charge Azizur Rahman said.

Meanwhile, locals said one crude bomb exploded near the house of lawmaker Moinuddin Khan Badalin Chandgaon area at around 8pm, but police denied the matter.

Several blasts took place through Kajir Dewri, Alangkar, WASA, GEC, Tiger pass, Ambagan, AK Khan, City Gate and others places after evening, local and police sources said.

Chittagong Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner Banaz Kumar Majumder said the blasts were aimed to create panic through the city.He suspects the act to have been committed by hartal supporters.
