A total of seven people were killed and 55 injured in separate incidents around the country on Friday.
In Narail, a man was killed and another left critically injured in a road accident in Kalnaghat area at Lohagora upazila in the evening, reports our correspondent.
The dead Waliur Rahman Sheikh, 60, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Police said a motorcycle collided head-on with a mini-truck around 5:30pm. Locals took them to Lohagora Upazila Health Complex, where Waliur succumbed to his injuries.
In Comilla, two people were killed after a covered-van rammed into a motorcycle on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at Harialpara in Burichang upazila, reports UNB.
One of the deceased was identified as Tahmina, 24, an examinee of primary teachers’ recruitment.
Mashiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Maynamati Highway police station, said the accident took place around 9:30am and had left the two people on the motorcycle spot dead. Police recovered the bodies and sent them to a hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
In Gopalganj, a minor girl was killed in a road accident near Bedhgram on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway, reports BSS.
The dead Sima Khanam, 7, was daughter of Iskandar Kazi.
Officer-in-Charge of Gopalganj Sadar police station Zakir Hossain Mollah said Sima Khanam was seriously injured when a mechanised vehicle locally known as Mahendra hit her while she was crossing the highway to go to home.
She was declared dead by the on duty doctors at Gopalganj Sadar Hospital after she was taken there by the locals.
Police seized the vehicle, however, the driver managed the escape. A case was filed in this connection with Gopalganj Sadar police station.
In Chapainawabganj, a woman was killed and four others were injured after a truck collided head-on with a human-hauler on the Chapainawabganj-Sonamasjid Highway near Saharatala under Shibganj upazila, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Piara Begum, 43.
Police sources said the accident had occurred around 9am, leaving five persons injured.
The injured were sent to Shibganj Upazila Health Complex where Piara succumbed to her injuries.
In Gaibandha, two children, cousins, were killed after being hit by an inter-city train in the afternoon at the outer signal point in Trimohini Rail Junction area in the sadar upazila.
The dead were Zahid Miah, 12, and Sheela, aged about 12 months.
Locals said Zahid and Sheela, who came to attend a function at their relative’s house, went out to see the railway track near their house around noon and were playing over it. A Dhaka-bound Lalmoni Express train from Lalmonirhat reached the area around 2pm and ran over the two, leaving Sheela spot dead.
Zahid, in critical condition, was taken to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead.
Meanwhile in Natore, at least 50 people were left injured after two buses collided head-on on the Natore-Rajshahi Highway near Takia area of the sadar upazila, reports UNB.
The injured were admitted to Natore Sadar, Puthia and Rajshahi Medical College hospitals.
