Dhaka to focus on green finance

The government will focus on making the Green Climate Fund (GCF) operational in the upcoming Conference of Parties (COP19) to be held in Warsaw, Hasan Mahmud, minister of Environment and Forest, said on Thursday.

“We hope that the future of the fund will be decided in this year’s conference,” the minister told a press briefing in his office organised prior to his departure for the conference.

He also said Bangladesh would discuss the promised financial contribution of worth $100bn by the developed nations to the vulnerable states supposed to be released from 2020 each year.

In addition to this the country would raise the demand for rehabilitation of climate induced people by the industrialised nations responsible for global warming, the minister said.

The COP19 scheduled to be held in Warsaw from November 11 to November 22 is the 19th session of the UN Climate Change Conference.

The fund named GCF initiated at the COP16 held in Cancun to cooperate the most climate vulnerable countries like Bangladesh is yet to finalise the sources of the fund.
