A total of 102 migrant workers returned to Bangladesh from Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, two days after an amnesty ended and a day after the authorities started drives to deport illegal foreign worker from the oil-reach country.
Earlier, officials at the Bangladesh embassy in the kingdom hinted that several thousand Bangladeshi migrant workers would return home, said a senior official at Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET).
Whether any Bangladeshi national has been arrested or not during the drive, could not be known immediately, but Arab News, an English-language daily newspaper published in Saudi Arabia, reported that thousands of workers had been detained.
Efforts were made to talk to officials at Bangladesh embassy in KSA, but they were not available for comment.
Earlier, officials of BMET claimed that 750,000 Bangladeshis have been benefited from the amnesty.
Around 400,000 illegal Bangladeshis were legalised while 350,000 migrants have been benefited in various ways, including from changing professions.
