DAD Tauhid is a victim, claims family

DAD Syed Tauhidul Islam, sentenced to death in BDR carnage, was not-guilty and he was victim of a conspiracy, claimed his mother Syeda Hazera Begum.

Hazera made the claim on Wednesday while talking to the Dhaka Tribune correspondent. She said: “Tauhid was taking tea at the canteen and called me after hearing the noise and fire on the day of mutiny.”

“Touhid was trying to hide but was caught by the mutineers and forced to come under the limelight,” the 82-years-old added. Syed Shamsul Alam, elder brother of the convicted, said: “My brother never took part in any crime and he was indicted in the case by conspiracy.”

Earlier, on Tuesday a special court sentenced 152 mutineers to death, 161 mutineers to lifetime imprisonment, 263 people to various terms of imprisonment and acquitted 277 jawans in relation to murder and arson at the force’s Pilkhana headquarters on February 25-26, 2009.
