Police arrested an employee of a sugar mill for his alleged involvement in setting the railway track on fire at Mobarakganj in Kaliganj upazila on Monday morning.
The arrested man was identified as Manwar Hossain, an employee of the Mobarakganj Sugar Mills Limited.
Kaliganj police sources said Manwar and some of his associates burned two tyres on the railway track at Mobarakganj on Monday morning. They also exploded two crackers.
Police detained Manwar Hossain, but when the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal held a rally his associates managed to flee.
The first day of the 60-hour nationwide hartal called by the opposition is underway in the district.
