National Youth Day observed

National Youth Day 2013 was observed in Khulna and Noakhali with rallies, discussions, tree plantations and the distribution of certificates among young, successful entrepreneurs.

In Khulna, the department of youth development, under the ministry of youth and sports, organised a rally around 10am at the Shibbari Moar area, which ended at the department’s district headquarters.

It also organised a discussion which was attended by Begum Monnujan Sufian, state minister for labour and employment. In her speech as a chief guest, Monnujan said national growth in any country depends mostly on its young populace.

”The youth of today are the future of our nation. Those in the age group of 18-35 years are youths according to our National Youth Policy, and are usually the most energetic and productive lot around. They are the ones who build our future through their initiatives.”

She also distributed Tk520,000-worth of cheques among ten male and female entrepreneurs. Among others, Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Majbauddin and Additional Director of Youth Development Monirul Islam were also present on the occasion.

In Noakhali, the day was observed in a similar spirit. The department of youth development organised a rally, discussion and a painting competition, and disbursed financial aid among young entrepreneurs.

Deputy Commissioner of Noakhali Shoel Imam Khan attended the discussion as the chief guest while Farhad Nur Deputy, director of Noakhali youth development department, chaired it.

About 30 youths received entrepreneurship certificates for the successful completion of trainings on different skill subjects. Tk440,000 worth of cheques were also disbursed among several entrepreneurs. Earlier in the day, a colourful rally was brought out from in front of the DC Bhaban, which moved through the streets and drew participants from different walks of life.

The day was observed with equal fervour in Kurigram, where the slogan for the observance was “Trained Youths, Foundation of Development.” Activities marking the day included a colourful rally, plant distribution, distribution of certificates among trained youths, blood donation, and essay and painting competitions.

In Sherpur, the day was also observed in the district amid befitting manners.

District administration arranged rallies, discussions and cultural programmes to mark the day. A procession also paraded main roads of the district on the occasion.
