The local administration on Wednesday imposed section 144 in Jhenaidah town and the surrounding areas as the Awami League and BNP, along with their front organisations called meetings in the area.
Sources said the ban was enforced from 6am on Wednesday and will continue till further notice.
Jhenaidah Deputy Commissioner Safiql Islam said: “The BNP called a meeting as a part of their country wide program while the Awami League also called a meeting at the same time and venues, protesting the recent hartal violence lead by the opposition party.”
Later the local administration imposed section 144 to ensure law and order in the town and nearby areas.
However Jhenaidah district BNP unit Secretary Abdul Malek alleged that the local administration had imposed section 144 to foil their country wide program on Thursday.
