At least two people were killed and 30 others injured as a bogie of the Chittagong Mail derailed in Akhaura Rail Junction Colony area in the district early Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Mostakin, 25, of Netrokona and Nurul Amin, 45, of Kishoreganj’s Ishwarganj.
Akhaura Railway Police source said the train derailed at about 3am while crossing Akhaura Rail Junction Colony area.
The injured were admitted to Akhaura Railway Hospital and Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital.
However, it could not confirm the cause of the accident.
The rail communications of Dhaka with Chittagong and Sylhet remained suspended for more than five hours following the derailment.
Later, the rail communications became normal around 9am.
