Unknown attackers set off crude bombs targeting sensitive establishments in and out of the capital late Monday night.
Handmade bombs were blasted at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, residences of the Anti-Corruption Commission chairman, chief prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, prominent journalist Abed Khan and several leaders of BNP and Awami League.
ACC Chairman Badiuzzaman told journalists that around 10:30pm six bombs were exploded one after another in front of his residence in Uttara, but no one was injured.
Also, three crude bombs were exploded at the airport at around 9:30pm.
In the capital’s Mouchak area, a shop employee at the Fortune Shopping Mall was injured by two cocktails at around 9:30pm. Identified as Sanwar Hossain, 25, the injured shop employee said he received the wounds while he was closing up his shop.
Two crude bombs were exploded near the Dhaka residence of Awami League Presidium member Sajeda Chowdhury at around 9:00pm, four bombs were exploded in front of the house of journalist Abed Khan in the capital’s Tantibazar at around 10:30pm, six crude bombs were exploded in front of the ruling party whip Nur-e-Alam’s residence in Nikunja at the same time, and six bombs were thrown at the Gulshan house of former minister and Jatiya Party leader Anisul Islam Mahmud.
According to police control room sources, unidentified people fired several rounds of gunshots targeting the residence of BNP’s steering committee leader Mirja Abbas at the capital’s Shahjahanpur at around 9:30pm. At the same time, gunshots were fired targeting the house of Dhaka City unit BNP leader Abdus Salam.
Bomb exploded at around 8pm in front of the residence of Golam Arif Tipoo, chief prosecutor, at Sector-2 of the Upo Shahar in Rajshahi. Witnesses said three people riding on a motorcycle hurled a crude bomb, and as soon as it exploded, the criminals sped away.
On information, Ziaur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Boalia police station, rushed to the spot. He told journalists they collected evidence from the scene.
Additionally, at least 15 crude bombs were thrown at the residence of Ismail Hossain Samrat, president of Dhaka City (South) unit of Jubo League, in the capital’s Shantinagar at around 9:30pm.
Four passenger buses were set ablaze in the capital’s Motijheel and Shahbagh.
According to the officials at the Fire Service and Civil Defense, two passenger buses were set ablaze in front of Notre Dame College in Motijheel at around 10:30pm. One bus incident occured at Banglamotor at around 10pm and another at Mohakhali at 8pm.
