Road accidents kill nine

Nine people were killed in four separate road accidents in Noakhali, Feni, Tangail and Gazipur in the last two days.

In Noakhali, a microbus driver died after he lost control over the wheel at Karolia Kalibari area on Kabirhat-Bashurhat highway in Companiganj upazila of the district   on Thursday.

The deceased was Md Manik, 40, hailed from Gazirbagh village, reports our Noakhali correspondent.

According to witnesses and police, a Bahsurhat-bound microbus rammed into a roadside shop around 8pm. When the accident took place nobody was inside the shop.

The driver died on the spot. Local people rescued him and sent him to Bashurhat Health Complex where on-duty doctor declared him dead.    

An unnatural death case was filled with Companiganj Police Station in this connection, said OC Sajadur Rahman.

In Feni, one person was killed and three others were injured in a road accident on Feni-Dagonbhuiyan road in Dagonbhuiyan upazila Thursday.

The deceased was Rassel, 35, of Sridharpur village, reports our Feni correspondent.

Officer-in-Charge of Dagonbhuiyan Police Station Anwarul Azim said the accident occurred when a lorry from opposite direction rammed into an auto-rickshaw around 4pm, leaving Rassel dead on the spot.

The injured were first taken to Feni Sadar Hospital, but later transferred to Chittagong Medical Collage as their physical condition deteriorated.

In Tangail, three members of a family were killed and six people injured as a pick-up van rammed into an auto-rickshaw at Charan in Kalihati upazila on Thursday, reports our correspondent.

The deceased were Shilpi Das, 25, of Ghonapara village, her daughter Pushpa Das, 3, and her mother Karuna Rani Das, 45.

Officer-in-Charge of Kalihati Police Station Md Bajlur Rashid said the accident took the place when a pickup van collided head on with a human hauler, leaving Pushpa dead on the spot and six others injured.

Later, the injured were rushed to Kalihati Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctor declared Shilpi and Karuna dead.

The dead bodies were handed over to their relatives after receiving permission from the district magistrate.

Police seized the human hauler and the pickup from the spot, he added.

In Gazipur, two people, including a five-year-old girl, were killed and five others injured as a passenger-loaded human hauler plunged into a roadside ditch at Bhadun area of Pubile under Sadar upazila of the district on Thursday.

The dead was Ria, 5, of Ashugonj upazila of Brakhkhanbari and Arif Sarker,22, of Bhatira Madhdhapara village under Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur.

Sub-inspector Mister Ali, in-charge of Pubile Police Outpost, said the human hauler was going to Pubile form Joydebpur. It fell into a roadside ditch around 2:30pm as the driver lost control near the Bhadun bridge, leaving two people dead on the spot.

After the accident local people rescued the injured and took them to nearby hospital.

Police recovered the bodies and sent to Gazipur Sadar Hospital morgue.
