Paramilitary Border Guard Bangladesh has been deployed throughout Dhaka and Narayanganj from Thursday evening amidst uncertainties over October 25.
BGB Public Relations Officer Mohsin Reza confirmed the news to the Dhaka Tribune on Thursday afternoon.
He however did not clarify on how long the deployment will remain effective.
The deployment has been made a day ahead of the October 25 rallies of ruling Awami League and its opposition BNP.
BGB Director General Major General Aziz Ahmed told the Dhaka Tribune that 20 platoons of the paramilitary force will patrol the capital.
He said: “We don't want to incite panic among the public. Thus, the fewer the deployment the better.”
BGB will be available upon request of Deputy Commissioners in any districts throughout the country, he added.
The measures are being taken at a time when the two prime political parties of the country are on differing stances over how the upcoming elections will be held.
Awami League has proposed for the formation of an all-party cabinet while BNP has counter-proposed the formation of a caretaker body to oversee the elections.
The simultaneous October 25 rallies of Awami League and BNP were expected to disclose further programmes from both parties in line with respective positions.
Fearing political violence, Dhaka Metropolitan Police called ban on rallies inside the capital from October 20 until further notice.
However, BNP said they would hold the rally at any cost.
