The government has taken extensive preparations to celebrate Bangla New Year 1433 with processions, cultural performances and fairs across the country.
To mark the occasion, special supplements carrying messages from the president, the prime minister and officials of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs will be published in newspapers.
Cultural organizations, including Chhayanaut and Jatiotabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (Jasas), will hold traditional programs at Ramna Batamul in Dhaka on the morning of April 14.
All official New Year celebrations will begin with the national anthem, followed by the traditional song “Esho He Boishakh”.
As part of the celebrations, the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Dhaka will organize the traditional Boishakhi Shobhajatra, one of the central attractions of Pahela Boishakh. This year’s theme for the procession has been set as “Harmony of the New Year, Revival of Democracy”.
The programs will be broadcast on state-run and private television channels, Bangladesh Betar, commercial radio and community radio stations.
Bangla Academy, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), will organize a 7-day New Year fair, discussion sessions and cultural programs at the Bangla Academy premises from April 14 to April 20.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Folk Art and Crafts Foundation will host a 14-day traditional Boishakhi fair at its premises from April 20.
Special arrangements have also been made to distribute traditional food in prisons, hospitals and children’s homes, alongside cultural programs for children.
All museums and archaeological sites across the country will remain open to the public during the celebrations, with free entry for children, students, persons with disabilities and children with special needs.
At the local level, district and upazila administrations will organize Boishakhi processions, cultural programs, folk fairs and essay competitions for students.
Union-level authorities have also been instructed to arrange processions and related festivities, while educational institutions nationwide will celebrate the New Year through their own programs in a festive environment.
Institutions under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, including those dedicated to ethnic minority communities, will organize their own events. Hotels and clubs are also expected to host special programs and serve traditional Bengali cuisine to mark the occasion.
To ensure public convenience, temporary medical service centers, sufficient toilets and safe drinking water facilities will be set up around Suhrawardy Udyan and Ramna Park in Dhaka.
Law enforcement agencies will remain deployed nationwide to ensure security at all events held at national, district and upazila levels.
