Yunus calls on world leaders to take ‘urgent’ steps to end Middle East war

Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday called on world leaders to take immediate and effective steps to end the ongoing war in the Middle East. He made the call in a statement issued by the Yunus Centre.

In the statement, Yunus said the conflict is pushing a war-ravaged world toward deeper instability and placing humanity under a severe test.

He said the war is killing civilians, especially children, and destroying homes, hospitals and educational institutions, while also threatening people’s basic needs and way of life.

“This is not just a regional crisis, it is a profound moral challenge for all humanity,” he said.

Yunus added that the ongoing war is increasing uncertainty and instability across the world, with poor and marginalized people bearing the greatest burden.

He urged world leaders to build global unity with courage, compassion and clear purpose. He said strong and effective steps must be taken to uphold international law, while diplomatic dialogue should be prioritized over military tension.

Yunus also called for stronger multilateral cooperation, saying, “This is not merely about geopolitics or the contest for power; it is a question about the future of human civilization. The world must therefore choose peace over war, dialogue over attack, and unity over division.”
