972 flights cancelled at Shahjalal Int’l airport amid Middle East tensions

A total of 972 flights have been cancelled from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport since February 28 due to the escalating security situation in the Middle East, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) sources said.

Assistant Director of CAAB’s Public Relations Department Muhammad Kawsar Mahmud confirmed the figures on Monday.

He explained that the airspace of Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan was closed on February 28 due to the regional security crisis. As a result, flight operations from Dhaka’s international airport have been disrupted.

According to CAAB data, 339 flights were cancelled between February 28 and March 9, 275 between March 10 and March 19, 226 between March 20 and March 29, and 132 between March 30 and April 6.

In total, 972 flights have been cancelled so far.
