Mohashtami, the third day of the five-day Durga Puja festival of Bangalee Hindu community, concluded on Saturday with Mohashtami Puja Proshastha and Brotobas in the morning and Sandhi Puja at night.
The Mohanabami puja of the Goddess Durga will be held on Sunday.
The main attraction of Mohashtami day Kumari Puja (worshipping of the virgin Goddess) was held at temples and pandals across the country.
In the capital city, hundreds of Hindu devotees offered Anjali (prayers) before the virgin Goddess at the Dhaka Ramakrishna Mission seeking her blessings for peace, prosperity, welfare, fraternity and changing of their lot.
The inner religious meaning of the Kumari Puja is to create a feeling among all to realise the images of mothers in all the women, according to Niranjan Maharaj, assistant secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission.
On the day marking Mohashtami, rush of devotees and people of other religions also was witnessed at different puja pandaps including the Dhakeswari National Temple, Ramna Kalibari O Ananadamoyee Ma Ashram, Baradeshwari Kali Mata Mandir, Kalabagan Play Ground and Jagannath Hall of Dhaka University.
The rush was also seen at Banani, Shankhari Bazar, Tanti Bazar, Farashganj, North Brooke Hall Road, Banagram, South Maishundi and other areas of the Old City.
The Mohanabami Kolparambha and Bihit Puja Proshastha of the Goddess Durga will be held within 9:48am in the morning on Sunday.
