The malfeasance of dope gangs in and around the capital is on the rise ahead of Eid ul-Azha and ongoing Durga Puja. The gangs are thumbing their noses at the law enforcement agencies and doping people without any let.
In the last fifteen days, some 50 people fell victim to the gangs and were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, of whom one died on Friday.
The deceased was around 50 years old who fell into a trap of the gang members on Wednesday and admitted to DMCH.
The Mogbazar resident succumbed to his injury at the hospital on Friday at 7am, said Abdus Sattar, sub-inspector of Ramna police station.
The police official added that the identity of the deceased was yet to be known, but all police stations across the capital had been asked to carve out his identity.
The crimes of these gang members mainly surface ahead of festivals’ rush when people are in a hurry.
The gang members loot valuables of their victims drugging them first.
Divided into 50 groups, more than 300 members of dope gangs commit crimes at different key points across the city.
According to intelligence report, dope gang members are active at 23 points of the city.
They are Mogbazar, Sayedabad, Mohakhali and Gabtoli bus terminals, Sadarghat launch terminal, Kamlapur rail station, Jatrabari intersection, Rampura, Banani, Kakoli, Gulshan, Banani chairman Bari, Arambagh, Farmgate, Asad Gate, Sahjahanpur, Khilgaon, Fakirarpool, Dainik Bangla intersection, Motijhil culvert, and Mirpur intersection.
