Several people were feared wounded in a massive explosion at a residential flat in the capital’s Fakirapool on Wednesday night.
The incident, which took place at around 8:30pm, created a mystery as none of the injured were found on the spot and were shifted elsewhere before the law enforcers rushed to the spot.
“Several people were injured in the explosion but we could not affirm the exact number of casualties”, said Md Ashrafuzzaman, Deputy Commissioner of Motijheel Division.
He said, “The explosion took place at around 8:30pm at a flat on the third floor of a four-storey building where the members of a family had been residing.”
“We are trying to locate the people who are suspected to be injured in the explosion,” he added.
“We are trying find out if the explosion took place because someone hurled bombs at the flat or if the bombs exploded during the manufacture process”, said the DC.
Witnesses said one Zaman rented the house at 19/B at Fakirerpool where the explosion took place. Panic gripped all the residents in the area.
All the utensils and furniture in a room in the house were destroyed in the explosion. Blood stains were also noticed on the room, a witness said.
Sub-inspector Sabuj Ali of Motijheel Police Station said they found bundles of flavoured tobacco inside the room of the house.
According to witnesses, law enforcers and intelligence personnel kept the house and the building cordoned as of filing the report at 9:45pm.
