Polytechnic students boycott exams for fourth day

Satkhira Polytechnic Institute students on Wednesday afternoon boycotted their exams for the fourth day to press home their two-point demand.

They are calling for an immediate change to the 2008 gazette that identifies diploma professionals as supervisors, not engineers; and the implementation of two recommendations from the inter-ministry.

Sources said students submitted a memorandum to the prime minister through the Satkhira Deputy Commissioner Dr Md Anwar Hossian Howladar around 12:30pm.

Meanwhile, they brought out a procession and blocked the Satkhira-Jessore road in the afternoon.

Confirming the matter, Satkhira sadar police station Officer-in-charge Shahjahan Ali Khan said police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Students urged the education ministry and ministry of housing and public works to implement the suggestions of the inter-ministry committee without any delay.

On September 29, at least eight people, including one policeman, were injured when students of Satkhira Polytechnic Institute locked horns with law enforcers in the morning.
