Probe body over Gazipur factory fire

A seven-member probe committee has been formed and asked to submit a report within seven days on the fire incident at Gazipur’s Aswad Composite Mills Limited, a sister concern of Palmal Group, in Sreepur.

Gazipur acting deputy commissioner Shahnewaz Dilruba Khan formed a seven-member probe committee, headed by Additional Deputy Magistrate Mohammad Mohsin, to investigate the incident.The readymade garment unit of Palmal Group caught fire around 7pm Tuesday. The fire was finally brought under control around 4am on Wednesday, Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence Station Officer Abu Zafar Ahmed said.

Nine fire fighting units brought flames under control after nine hour of efforts. The fire said to have went out of control because of a boiler explosion.

In the morning, fire fighters were engaged in putting out smoulders under the piles of rubbish.

Meanwhile, Sreepur police station Officer-in-Charge Amir Hossain confirmed seven deaths. The bodies were being kept at Sreepur Upazila Health Complex.
