In 2025, a total of 27,059 fire incidents were reported across the country, averaging 75 fires a day.
The fires killed 85 people and injured 267 others.
During firefighting operations, 17 Fire Service personnel were injured and three lost their lives.
The information was shared in a press release issued on Tuesday by the Fire Service and Civil Defence Media Cell.
According to the release, most of the fires were caused by electrical faults, burning cigarets, stoves and gas-related problems.
The total estimated property damage from these fires amounted to approximately Tk56.99 crore, while the Fire Service saved assets worth Tk3,263.62 crore through their operations.
Fire Service statistics show that electrical faults caused the highest number of fires, followed by burning cigarette and bidi stubs, stoves, gas cylinder leaks, gas supply line leaks and gas cylinder explosions.
Other causes included chemical accidents, children playing with fire, hot ash, mosquito coils and fireworks and sky lanterns.
In terms of locations, the highest number of fires occurred in residential houses and buildings. A total of 8,705 fires broke out in homes, accounting for 32.17% of all incidents. Fires were also reported in haystacks, shops, markets, shopping malls, garment and non-garment factories, gas cylinder shops, electrical substations, high-rise buildings, restaurants and hotels, government offices, hospitals, diagnostic centres, jute warehouses and mills, chemical warehouses, slums, mosques, temples, educational institutions and in air-conditioner-related incidents.
Transport-related fire statistics show that in 2025, fires occurred in 153 buses, 216 other vehicles, 10 trains, four launches and two ships. One training aircraft also caught fire after crashing.
Monthly data show that March recorded the highest number of fires, with 3,522 incidents. Other months with high numbers included January, February, April, May, November and December.
An analysis of casualties shows that men were more affected than women. Of the 267 injured, 197 were men and 70 were women, while among the 85 deaths, 46 were men and 39 were women.
In 2025, the Fire Service and Civil Defence also carried out 1,071 diving operations, rescuing 70 injured people and recovering the bodies of 585 victims. During the same year, the service rescued 296 livestock animals, 30 birds and 229 other animals.
The press release said that to strengthen fire prevention measures nationwide, the Fire Service and Civil Defence conducted 192 mobile court drives in 2025, fined 179 institutions a total of Tk19.45 million and filed cases against eight institutions.
