In conversation with VJs of MTV shows in Bangladesh

The first ever VJs of MTV programme platform in Bangladesh, Anya and Yazdani will be hosting programmes, “MTV Chart Attack” and “My Celeb MTV,” which will air on Maasranga TV soon. Anya and Yazdani will showcase their hosting talent as the youth ambassadors of Bangladesh in MTV.

Anya is a fresher who is yet to start her undergraduate studies and Yaz is an MSS student. Both the youngsters have worked as RJ’s in a FM radio station.

Dhaka Tribune caught up with the duo about their journey to become a part of MTV and their future aspirations:

Why did you choose to be a VJ?

Anya: Being a VJ enables me to communicate with the audience, get to know their opinion and make a connection on a one to one basis. Being an outgoing person in nature, I enjoy getting to know people.

Yaz: From my childhood I always wanted to be an entertainer. I believe that the MTV platform is the first stepping stone in my life to entertain the audience.

You both had experience of being an RJ. How does it differ from being a VJ?

Anya: Since TV is a visual medium, besides voice, people will get to see your outfit, attitudes, fashion sense and many more. It is easier to set trends and examples among youngsters.

Yaz: Being an RJ was just about my voice and the way I spoke in a studio. But as a VJ I will be judged by my appearance, facial expression, gesture, postures, in short everything I do will be noticed and pointed out.

Apart having these traits, do you have any other talents?

Anya: I am a versatile person and can easily adapt to any situation. I am a debater, can sing and dance and play basketball.

Yaz: As I mentioned before, I am an entertainer, I can mimic others and yes I am an ambidextrous, I can write with both my left and right hand.

Where would you emphasise most being a VJ?

We will promote our local music and try to give a much needed boost to our music industry.

How would the programmes and your presentation would uphold the culture of Bangladesh?

Anya: Our priority would be to air the local music besides airing world music. Respecting the norms and values of our culture is part of our job.

Yaz: We have to speak in both English and Bangla. We know the accents of the RJs are highly criticised. We have to speak in both English and Bangla in a presentable and decent manner.

Tell us about your idols.

Anya: Oprah Winfrey and Melody Gardot, because of who they are in real.

Yaz: Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean), because he is one of the greatest entertainer of all time.
