Another death in The Simpsons this season

A major character on The Simpsons will be killed off this season.

The Simpsons is the longest running television show in history, embracing its 25th year on primetime television. With speculation surrounding the tapped out scripts and possibly the show ending for good, executives are developing a plot behind the scenes.

The last death on the show, that of Ned Flanders’ wife Maude, took place 14 years ago. She was hit in the chest by a t-shirt cannon at Springfield Speedway. The adored, religious wife of Ned Flanders flew back in a blast of rolled shirts and fell to her death. Keep in mind it was Homer yelling for the cannons to go flying at him, and when the girls turned all cannons to blaze, Homer leaned down to become entranced by a lost bobby pin. That released a bevy of powerfully delivered shirts that killed sweet Maude.

The animated show’s 25th series began airing in the US on the weekends and executive producer Al Jean revealed that a household name will soon die.

He told the Canada Sun Times: “I’ll give you a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for the role, but I won’t say who it is.”

This clue does little to narrow down the field however, as most of the major characters’ artists have been recognised during the show’s lengthy run.

Jean also revealed that the final episode of the season will be a crossover with Futurama.

“I’ve been here 25 years, and we had a read on Wednesday where the excitement was as high as I’ve ever seen,” he said.

“We had John DiMaggio and Billy West and Maurice LaMarche from Futurama, as well as our cast, and I thought that’s got to be the greatest voiceover talent assembled at one read.”
