Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu has brushed away allegations that the verdict of Salauddin Quader Chowdhury was leaked from the law ministry beforehand.
The minister said this particular verdict established that “no one is above the law.”
He was speaking to media on Tuesday, expressing his satisfaction at the death verdict given to SQ Chowdhury.
Earlier in the day, International Crimes Tribunal 1 convicted the BNP leader of nine charges and sent him to gallows for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.
Family and pro-BNP lawyers alleged that the copy of the verdict had been leaked beforehand.
Minister Inu said it was a "false campaign" and added that such propaganda aimed to create controversy about the war crimes tribunal and the verdict itself.
“They are trying to confuse people.” he said. “It was surely done to create confusion at home and abroad.”
In reply to question on who was involved in the alleged leak, the minister said telecom regulator BTRC had already launched an investigation into the incident.
He asserted that the government would take actions against those found responsible in the matter.
Minister Inu called upon BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to leave the company of war criminals, and said he believed Khaleda would support the death verdict of SQ Chowdhury.
