The security measures in Chittagong city and the district’s 14 upazilas have been tightened ahead of the verdict of BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.
Abdul Mannan, deputy commissioner (DC) of Chittagong district, told the Dhaka Tribune: “Border Guard Bangladesh personnel will be deployed in five upazila’s of the district – Hathazari, Raozan, Rangunia, Sitakunda and Fatikchhari – from 6am on Tuesday.”
Banaj Kumar Mazumder, additional commissioner (crime and operation) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), said additional 2,000 police men were deployed in 80 points of the port city to avert any kind of subversive activities.
“Security measures have been taken on Dhaka-Chittagong, Chittagong-Rangamati and Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highways,” he said.
A high official of CMP, seeking anonymity, told the Dhaka Tribune that some BNP leaders were also being kept under intelligence vigilance.
