Dazzling paintings by a number of prominent and promising artists are on display in a group painting exhibition by Aangina— an association of artists, craftsmen and designers—at the Dhaka Art Centre. The show began on September 27 and will continue till October 3.
Artworks by eminent artists like late Quamrul Hasan, late Imdad Hossain, Qayyum Chowdhury, Abdul Muqtadir, Muhammad Idris and Golam Sarwar enrich the show. On the other hand, a bunch of promising artists have also utilised the platform to proof their talent. Altogether, the exhibition is a good demonstration of the contemporary art in Bangladesh.
The ongoing group art exhibition is exemplary for its selection of works. Through the exhibits of a total of 57 paintings, it showcases scenic beauty of the nature of Bangladesh, the social reality, people, cultural elements and more.
The artists have depicted their artistic self with acrylic, oil, dry point, water colour, poster colour, mixed media and many more in realistic, semi realistic and abstract styles.
In Qayyum Chowdhury’s three paintings, the simplicity and harmonious life of rural Bangladesh have been portrayed with his signature strokes. A happy moment has been captured in late Imdad Hossain’s painting where two fishes are swimming in the water and the golden background represents joy.
Kalam Akhand used vibrant acrylic colour on canvas in his painting “Comb,” that depicts a common demonstration of womanhood through an image of a lady combing her long black hair. The use of dazzling colours and extensive brush strokes are the prime characteristics in his works.
Among the participants, Sabiha Akter is one of the expressionist artists. In shades of brown, blue and red colours, her artwork titled “Insearch of Peace,” shows the artist’s urge for peace which is a far cry in the contemporary world.
The exhibition was inaugurated by US Ambassador Den W Mozena while famed artist Shahabuddin Ahmed was present as special guest.
