In the next event of Saturday Night Boxing Julio Cesar Chavez Jr will take on Brian Vera on September 28, 2013 at 10:15 PM ET/PT at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, Calif.
The fight has been reduced from a scheduled 12-round bout to a 10-round bout at the insistence of the Vera camp as part of the negotiations to increase the weight limit. Boxing fans will be able to watch Chavez vs Vera live streaming fight online in HD quality. The fight title is set for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr vs Brian Vera and co-feature Diego Magdaleno vs Edgar Riovalle. You can see the match live here Watch Live Online.
Chavez (46-1-1, 32 knockouts) has had past difficulty making the limit of 160 pounds at middleweight, where he was a champion from June 2011 to September 2012, when he lost a unanimous decision to Sergio Martinez.
The younger Chavez, notorious for his problems making 160 pounds when he was a middleweight, is also having issues making 168. So on Wednesday, Arum and Pelullo met in Los Angeles to work out an increase in the weight -- and to settle on how much additional money Vera and Pelullo would get for their trouble, since they have a signed contract calling for the fight to take place at 168.
“It’s still being discussed based on where Julio is. Everyone wants to get it resolved,” Arum said before the bout’s final news conference Wednesday afternoon in Los Angeles.
Vera has been around the sport a long time. He starred on The Contender in 2007 and has appeared frequently on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights.
Vera (23-6, 14 KOs) and Shields asked for the rounds reduction is unclear, but since Chavez is known as a slow starter, perhaps they think they can put several early rounds in the bank, get out to a lead and give Chavez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) fewer rounds to work with late in the fight.
