At least 10 students were injured when police tried to disperse demonstrators from Bogra Polytechnic Institute’s campus early on Saturday.
The demonstrating students placed two demands; promotion in the job field for Diploma Engineers, and increased value of their certificates.
Students threw brick chips at the police as they tried to disperse the movement around noon. Police then started charging batons, and firing rubber bullets and teargas.
Abul Hasan, a student at the institute, alleged that six of the injured were hit by rubber bullets. He confirmed the identities of four of them as Shohel Rana, Abul Bashar, Akibur Raahman and Samrat Islam.
Students also demanded the cancellation of examinations scheduled for Sunday.
The Dhaka-Bogra Highway was blocked for half an hour during the incident.
