The workers of a readymade garment (RMG) factory staged a demonstration in their factory in Kadamrasul area in Sitakunda upazila, Chittagong on Wednesday.
Thousands of workers of Sunman Textiles staged the demonstration demanding the clearance of their due salary and an end to the oppression of the high officials.
Police sources said four workers were injured during a scuffle between factory officials and workers in the factory.
Two officials were allegedly assaulted during the incident.
Locals said the RMG workers closed the main gates of their factory at 10am and staged their demonstration.
Meanwhile, the factory officials were confined in the factory.
Police rushed to the spot but the workers obstructed them from entering the factory, said Md Iqbal Ali, assistant superintendent of police (ASP) of the Sitakunda circle of Chittagong Range.
However, the workers claimed that the authorities did not take any measures despite the workers having their demands voiced in front of them on several occasions.
Quoting the workers, the ASP said the factory officials often harass the female workers.
The workers and the factory authorities sat in a meeting at 1pm and the authorities assured them of fulfilling the workers’ demands.
The RMG workers later withdrew their protests at 2pm.
Additional policemen were deployed in the area to avoid any untoward situations, said ASP Iqbal.
