Villagers set fire to the office of Palli Bidyut Samity on Tuesday night, angered by the frequent power cuts in Harinakundu upazila, Jhenaidah.
The Rural Electrification Board of Bangladesh provides power to villages through Palli Bidyut Samity.
About 200 villagers had pounced on the office located in Satbridge and had set fire to a motorbike, as well as office furniture, around 9:30pm, Junior Engineer Mosharraf Hossain said.
Later, local Fire Service and Civil Defence arrived to douse flames.
PBS Jhenaidah General Manager Nityananda Kundu said the office had been receiving threats because of the incessant power disruptions over the last few weeks.
According to Kundu, Jhenaidah receives around 17KW power as opposed to its 40KW daily requirement. "We cannot cope up with the acute demand," he said.
Harinakundu Police Station Officer-in-charge Mahibul Islam said the area had been calm after 11pm.
