Chhatra Dal releases abducted CU train driver

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal's (JCD) Chittagong University (CU) unit released the abducted driver of the university's shuttle train two hours after he was abducted on Wednesday morning.

JCD members had released the driver after holding a discussion meeting with the university authorities, said Assistant Proctor Helaluddin Chowdhury.

Meanwhile, the shuttle train service, which connects the port city to the CU campus – as well as the popular free-of-cost transportation for students – resumed around 11:30am.

However, the class schedules were hampered in the morning.

JCD members abducted Bodu Mia somewhere between Chittagong University and Fatiabad in the Hathazari area around 8:30am, protesting against assaults on its activists.

The university unit's JCD General Secretary Saifuddin Salam Mithu claimed responsibility for the abduction.

He said the act had been carried out by JCD in protest against assaults on its activists by Bangladesh Chhatra League and police on Tuesday.

JCD campus unit brought out a procession on Tuesday morning, protesting the indictment of their Central President Abdul Kader Bhuiyan.

Activists of the ruling Awami League's youth front Chhatra League swooped on the procession. Three Chhatra Dal supporters were left injured.

Later, police cleared the area.

Chhatra Dal did not announce any programmes following the abduction.
