One killed in Noakhali during Jamaat shutdown

An auto-rickshaw driver died in Noakhali's Companyganj during the first day of the 48-hour shutdown called by the Jamaat-e-Islami.

The deceased was identified as Abu Naser, 45, son of Abu Taher from Feni.

According to sources, picketers chased Naser after he fell in front of a procession brought out near Taler Chara area around 6:30am.

Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Sajidur Rahman of Companyganj police station told the Dhaka Tribune that Naser died in an accident as he lost control while trying to escape after being chased by the picketers.

“The wounds he had on his neck, head and body suggests such,” the official added.

Later, Naser was taken to Companyganj Upazila Health Complex by the locals where the duty doctors declared him dead.

Noakhali Superintendent of Police Anisur Rahman had visited the hospital after receiving news of the death, OC Sajidur said. The SP reportedly told journalists that actions will be taken immediately, the OC added.
