Six-day theatre festival “Ganga-Jamuna Natyautsab” ended amidst huge enthusiasm on September 16 at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Theatre troupe Aneek from Kolkata staged “Protik,” at 7pm at the National Theatre Hall of BSA on the closing day. Simaltaneously, Shobdo Natya Chorcha Kendro staged “Tritiyo Ekjon,” at the Experimental Theatre Hall and Natyadhara staged “Ayna” at the Studio Theatre Hall.
The festival was arranged by Ganga-Jamuna Natyautsab Parishad (Bangladesh Committee), in association with Indian theatre troupe Aneek (Kolkata).
Aneek has been arranging this festival in Kolkata for the last seventeen years and in 2012, a special committee was formed in Bangladesh for the event to take place in the country as well. This was the second installment of the “Ganga-Jamuna Natyautsab,” in Bangladesh.
Leading troupes of Bangladesh like Aranyak, Dhaka Theatre, Loko Natya Dal, Prachyanat, Nagarik Natyangan and others staged their acclaimed plays in the event. Aneek was the only theatre troupe to represent our neighbouring country. Kolkata based troupe Ritwik was supposed to stage their acclaimed play “Diba Ratrir Kabyo,” but due to some unavoidable circumstances they cancelled the staging and Dhaka theatre’s play “Binodini” replaced the slot.
The festival showcased a total of 17 plays from Bangladesh and one from India.
