Shakib named Unicef goodwill ambassador

Bangladesh cricket star Shakib Al Hasan has been named a United Nations Children Funds’ (Unicef) “goodwill ambassador” for Bangladesh, along with famed magician Jewel Aich and popular actress Arifa Zaman Moushumi.

The appointments will be officially announced at a press conference arranged by Unicef today. The last time the organization named goodwill ambassadors from Bangladesh was in 2005 and on that occasion, table tennis legend Zobera Rahman Linu, former Bangladesh national cricket captain Habibul Bashar Sumon and star batsman Mohammad Ashraful were the ambassadors.

The ambassadors will sign a two year contract and will work to promote children rights.

Unicef Bangladesh representative Pascal Villeneuve is expected to introduce the new goodwill ambassadors.
