Legendary Bangla-film actor Anwar Hossain was laid to eternal rest at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals graveyard Friday afternoon.
He died at a city hospital early on Friday. He was 82.
Sources said the veteran actor, who was popularly known as the ‘Crownless Emperor’ of Bangla filmdom, breathed his last at Square Hospital around 2:30am.
He was admitted to the hospital on August 18 with various age-related complications.
He leaves behind his wife, four sons, one daughter and a host of relatives, well-wishers and admirers.
His first namaz-e-janaza was held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital after Juma prayers. The second janaza was held at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC) premises.
Anwar Hossain was born in Jamalpur on December 6, 1931.
Hossain made his debut in Tomar Amar in 1961 and two years later played the role of the hero in Salahuddin’s Surja Snyan.
He appeared in Nawab Siraj-ud-Daula in 1967. In his long acting career spanning over four decades, the seasoned actor took on many challenging roles, appearing in around 500 movies.
Anwar Hossain was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.
