The National Board of Revenue will give tax cards to 40 entrepreneurs to honour the top taxpayers in different sectors including service and manufacturing for their contribution to the national exchequer.
“We have finalised the list of top taxpayers. They will be awarded tax cards on the income tax day [Sunday] which would support them to reduce hassles while tax filing. The tax card is also aimed at encouraging other taxpayers,” an NBR official told Dhaka Tribune on Thursday.
In line with the National Tax Card Policy 2010, the revenue body will award 40 taxpayers, including 10 individual and 10 corporate, for the financial years 2010-11 and 2011-12.
Earlier, the NBR awarded 20 top taxpayers for their contribution in 2009-10.
Individuals giving tax over Tk45m and corporate houses paying Tk2.5bn get the special facility.
The card holders will have the privilege to attend the state programmes, get priority in transport while their family members will get priority in medical services.
On February 10, NBR Chairman Ghulam Hossain formed a three-member committee to find the top taxpayers. The committee in June primarily finalised the names of 40 taxpayers and sent the list to the central bank to check whether they were tax evaders or not.
After having approval, the NBR
sent a list to the finance ministry for approval.
The individual taxpayers selected for 2010-11 are – Salauddin Kashem Khan, AK Shamsuddin Khan, AM Zia Uddin Khan, MA Haider Hossain, Mohammad Yusuf, MM Amzad Hossain, Mrs Khaza Tajmohol, Hazi Mohammad Kaus Mia, M Shahidul Islam, and M Motazzerul Islam.
The top 10 corporate taxpayers for 2010-11 are – US-based Chevron Bangladesh (Block 12), Sylhet Gas Fields Limited, Karnaphuli Fertiliser Limited, Citi Bank NA, American Life Insurance Company Ltd (Alico), AK Khan Company Limited, Trust Bank Ltd, Jamuna Bank, Central Depository Bangladesh Limited, and Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation.
The individual taxpayers for 2011-12 are – M Motazzerul Islam, Mohammad Yusuf, MA Haider Hossain, Mrs Khaza Tajmohol, Dr MM Amzad Hossain, Salauddin Kashem Khan, AM Zia Uddin Khan, Sadar Uddin Khan, AK Shamsuddin Khan and Hazi Mohammad Kaus Mia.
The 10 corporate taxpayers of 2011-12 are – Chevron Bangladesh (Block 12), Sylhet Gas Fields Limited, Karnaphuli Fertiliser Limited, Alico, Citi Bank NA, Central Depository Bangladesh Limited, Trust Bank Ltd, Jamuna Bank, AK Khan Co, and Barapukuria Coal Mining Company.
