India’s Border Security Force (BSF) members picked up at least 31 Bangladeshi cattle traders from Bibhishan border point under Gomastapurupazila in Chapainawabganj early Tuesday.
BSF members from Tilashan camp in India caught the cattle traders long with cattle while they were returning back to Bangladesh through the border, UNB has reported.
Commander of BGB battalion-43 Lt Col Mahmudul Kabir said they were caught 200 yards inside Indian territory.
Sources said a company commander-level flag meeting was held regarding the matter on Tuesday afternoon.
According to reports, BSF officials handed over the detainees to Indian police.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel Mahmudul said another flag meeting was being heldto identify the detainees.
The news comes amid heightened tension between Dhaka and Delhi following India’s acquittal of the BSF member accused of killing Felani, and Delhi’s recently announced plans to deploy drones along the India-Bangladesh border for “better surveillance.”
