The statement was published in the official website of the US department of state on Tuesday local time under title 'Bangladesh's Impending Elections (Taken Question).'
"What the way forward looks like is for the parties of Bangladesh to decide; however, non-violence is essential to any solution."
The statement bore the name of the Office of the Spokesperson, Washington, DC.
The statement came amidst ongoing talks between a delegation of the European Union and the ruling Awami League, arch opposition BNP and the Election Commission.
Earlier on Sunday, US Secretary of State John Kerry wrote to Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia, chiefs of the two prime political parties in the country, calling upon them to find a way to hold free, fair and credible elections.
