A mobile court of the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) on Monday evicted around 100 shops, which had been setup illegally on the footpath of Muradpur-Oxygen Road in Chittagong.
The court also fined Tk1m to the shops’ owners, said CDA sources.
The court also ordered two building owners to demolish the illegal portion of their buildings on the footpath within a week, added sources.
The court conducted the drive 11am-2pm.
Mohammad Ashraful Amin, executive magistrate of CDA, said the shop owners had been warned several times to remove their shops from the footpath, as construction work of the road was being hampered by the presence of the illegal shops.
“This type of drive will continue the entire month,” Ashraful added.
CDA officials, engineers and police also assisted in the drive.
