A fire burnt down three semi-pucca houses and a furniture factory in port city’s Pahartoli area Sunday morning.
However, no casualty was reported in this incident, said fire service sources.
Md Jashim Uddin, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters at Agrabad in Chittagong, told Dhaka Tribune that the fire had originated due to an electric short circuit at the furniture factory in a thatched house, owned by one Abul Kalam in Naya Pahartoli Ispahani intersection area around 10am. The fire soon spread to the adjoining three semi-pucca houses, owned by Md Hannan and Md Mostak.
Two firefighting units from Agrabad and Bandar fire station rushed to the spot and doused the fire after grappling with it for an hour. Valuables worth about Tk3m were destroyed in the fire.
