Ten senior information officers of Press Information Department, who were recruited as 9th batch officers of BCS, have been promoted as deputy principle information officer (DPIO), after waiting 22 years in service.
The information ministry issued the promotion order on Thursday and the promotions were given according to the recommendations given on September 3 by the departmental promotion committee (DPC).
The officers promoted as DPIO were senior editors of the Department of Film and Publication (DFP), Mohsina Begum and Nasima Aktar, director of DFP, Nurun Nahar Nazma and director of Bangladesh Film Archive, Aktar Hossain, who was also the director of Department of Mass-Communication.
All of them were working in the same posts earlier as current charge officer.
Bangladesh Film Sensor Board’s Secretary Abdur Rahim, Public Relation Officer Subodh Chandra Dhali of the education ministry, Senior Information Officer (Protocol) AFM Aminul Islam of PID, Senior Information Officer Bidhan Chandra Karmakar of Rajshahi regional information office and Deputy Director Anwara Begum of National Mass Media Institute were also promoted as DPIO.
DPIO Shachindra Nath Haldar was promoted to senior DPIO by the ministry. A separate order was issued in this regard the same day.
AFM Aminul Islam and Subodh Chandra Dhali told the Dhaka Tribune that they joined the civil service as officers of the 9th batch (1984) of BCS. They were promoted as senior information officers in 1991.
According to the ministry officials, most batch mates of the promoted officers who had joined as admin cadres were now working as joint secretaries. The officials alleged that the promotions of the officers were delayed due to negligence of high officials.
