A Bangladeshi minor girl, who was kidnapped and trafficked to India and allegedly raped and forced into prostitution, was rescued by Indian police in the state of Gujarat, Times of India reported Thursday.
Three people, including a married couple, were arrested in Udhna, sub-city of Surat in Gujarat for forcing the girl into prostitution. Police have launched a search for six other people in the city and in Mumbai in connection with the crime.
The TOI website reported that following a tip-off, the police rescued the 17-year-old girl by raiding a house in Udhna where she was being forced into prostitution.
She said she had come to India on August 10 with her boyfriend Anwar Hussain, who then sold her to a man she referred to as Misbah. She was raped several times by Misbah, and then sold off to a “Dadabhai” and his accomplice who also raped her. They then sold her to the trio who have been arrested. She was raped by Ashok, the husband, several times before being pushed into the trade.
"The girl was kidnapped from Bangladesh and we are searching for her boyfriend who seems to be the key person. We suspect that he is involved in bringing girls from Bangladesh to India for prostitution. She is a Bangladeshi national and was raped in Mumbai and Surat," Times of India quoted Inspector AH Rajput of Udhna police station as saying.
Police have sent the girl for medical examination. “The medical examination will reveal if she is suffering from any other health problem. She will be given required medical treatment,” said BS Jebaliya, additional commissioner of police.
