Five Bangladeshis were handed over to Indian police on Thursday for crossing over to the neighbouring country illegally.
Border Guard Bangladesh commanding officer in Chuadanga, Gazi Asaduzzaman, said the five fled to India to evade arrest after a case was filed against them with Jibannagar police.
Villagers of Krishnanagar in West Bengal nabbed and handed them over to Indian police in the morning.
The arrestees were: Robjel Hossain, son of Pachu Malitha, Shukur Ali, son of late Mander Malitha, Ziaur Rahman, son of Yakub Mondal, Firoj Fakir, son of Mannan Fakir, and Mohammad Mia, son of Haba. They are all from Goysherpur village in Chuadanga Jibannagar Upazila.
The BGB official did not elaborate any further on this matter.
BGB insiders told the Dhaka Tribune that legal steps might be taken against the five according to Indian law for entering the country without valid papers.
