The mobile phone operators in Bangladesh have appealed to the government for extension of time by one month, for the auction of 3G mobile service spectrum.
Md Abu Bakar Siddique, secretary to the ministry of posts and telecommunications, said the mobile operators sent a letter on Monday seeking extension of time for the auction.
In the letter, the mobile operators said they would not be able to participate in the auction if the time was not extended.
Secretary Siddique said: "We will take decision about their [mobile operators] request in a day or two after talking to all stakeholders. We want to help every stakeholder taking part in the auction process."
"It will not make any sense if none of the mobile operators take part in the auction. At the same time, the matter of extension of time will be considered from various perspectives as the tenure of the present government is ending soon," he added.
Earlier, the Telecom Minister Sahara Khatun said the authorities would take decision on the date of the auction upon assurance of participation of all mobile operators.
