Robi strikes 21% revenue growth to become no 2 player

Leading mobile phone operator Robi continued to post outstanding double-digit growth across all financial metrics – revenues grew 21% to Tk22.4bn in the first half this year, according to a website presentation by its parent company.

Axiata Group Berhad, claimed Robi as the number two player in Bangladesh, based on revenue share.

Their total revenue in the first half of last year was Tk18.56bn. The company’s profit (after tax) also increases significantly to stand at Tk2.24bn in January to June period of 2013, which was Tk322m in the same period previous year.

It said the profit after tax increased by more than 100% due to lower financing costs.

“Robi continued to post outstanding double digit growth across all financial metrics due to strong voice as well as data growth,” the report claimed.

Robi saw strong subscriber growth of 19% YoY, following an aggressive acquisition drive and focused retention initiatives.

According to the presentation, Robi’s revenue per user per month is Tk170 which was Tk174 in the first half of 2012.

Customer usage also decreased from 170 minutes per month per user to 168 minutes.

No one of the local Robi management wants to comment on these figures as they arranged a press conference today to disclose the company performance.
